Christ Church Gate Canterbury

DESCRIPTION: This is a vintage print depicting Christ Church Gate in Canterbury. The gateway, dating back to around 1520, is the main entrance into the Canterbury Cathedral precincts. Various publishers, such as A. Wildey and Carl Norman & Co., produced similar sepia-toned images of this landmark. The gate shown was originally built in 1517 and underwent restoration in the 1930s. The present image predates that restoration, as revealed in the absence of its present day turrets.
