Collégiale De N-D. De Nantes — Chapelle St Thomas. XVI. Siècle

DESCRIPTION: This 19th-century print depicts the interior of the Chapelle Saint-Thomas of the former collegiate church of Notre-Dame in Nantes, France. Built 1514–1524, it is shown adapted for industrial use as a blacksmith's forge in the early 19th century.  Inscribed "COLLÉGIALE DE N. D. DE NANTES — CHAPELLE ST THOMAS. XVI. SIÈCLE", along with the credits "Ch. Marionneau del." (delinavit / drawn by) and "Rapine sc." (sculpsit / engraved by), “imp. Ch. Chardon ainé” published in the art journal Gazette des Beaux-Arts in July 1880, annotated Bretagne Artistique (artistic Brittany). The chapel managed to survive the surrounding demolition of the collegiate church and later served municipal purposes. The print is stamped ‘SPECIMEN’, identifying it as a 19th-century trade specimen printed from engraved reliefs intended for subsequent print runs.
