Tiitled "CROWNING WITH THORNS”, it depicts the biblical scene of Jesus Christ being crowned with thorns by Roman soldiers primarily as an act of mockery and humiliation. After Jesus was condemned for claiming to be the "King of the Jews," the soldiers staged a satirical "coronation" to ridicule his perceived royal status.Context: The artwork is an antique Bible print, found in Georgian illustrated bibles.
