Die klassische Köchin (Maid of Orleans)

DESCRIPTION: Victorian printing/electrotype specimen associated with the Electrotype Agency, London. Specifically, trade sheet stamped The Electrotype Agency of 13 Ludgate Hill, London, advertising the printing blocks and metal sheets (electrotypes) they owned and supplied, used by publishers to carry out print runs. TEA held a staggering 2 million such blocks, as well as being sole distributors of the Illustrated London News. The present example shows several vignettes, used to illustrate a Late 19th century classical collection of the famed Friedrich Schiller’s works. This one, entitled "Die klassische Köchin", showcased satirical scenes related to daily life and domestic work featured in the C18th playwright’s Jungrau von Orleans (Maid of Orleans), in his lifetime his most performed piece. They were created by artist Wilhelm Grögler. Note: The item for sale is a trade sheet on ultra thin paper and printed using the reliefs on offer for producing the finished volume.
