Hungerford and Lambeth Suspension Bridge

DESCRIPTION: This is an antique line engraving depicting the original Hungerford Suspension Bridge over the River Thames in London. Designed by engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the footbridge opened in 1845 to connect Hungerford Market to the south bank. The bridge featured two prominent brick piers in an Italian style and was later replaced by a railway bridge in the 1860s. Captioned ‘Hungerford and Lambeth Suspension Bridge’.
