DESCRIPTION: This vintage photograph shows the interior view of both the Lady Chapel and the Martyrdom (North-West Transept) at Canterbury Cathedral, featuring the memorial screen and the bust/scene dedicated to Archbishop Thomas Becket. Significance: This transept is the historic site where Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered on December 29, 1170. Here is displayed the Gothic stone screen of the Lady Chapel area alongside the wall-mounted memorial and bust depicting the scene of the martyrdom. Rebuilt largely in the 14th century in the Perpendicular Gothic style following earlier fires and alterations.
