This engraving, titled "A Savage of the Admiralty Isles in the South Sea," was created based on an original drawing by the French artist Jean Piron. It illustrates a man from the Admiralty Islands (modern-day Manus Province, Papua New Guinea) and was published as part of the accounts from the 1791–1794 expedition led by Bruni d'Entrecasteaux, who was searching for the lost explorer La Pérouse.
